The draw of the game comes from the fact that you really don't need a lot of stuff to play, all you need are only two dice. As for the table, any table can be used and the markings can be made by a piece of chalk. This makes it very attractive as an in house game during events.

However, what's even more exciting is the game play itself. The rules are quite very simple and easy to learn, but players will definitely still be very engaged in it. The basics of the game is simply betting on whether the dice will land on a particular combination or otherwise. One unique feature of the game is that you can actually bet on the winning combination not appearing.

The pass line bet and its negative twine, the don't pass line bet (all the alternative bets are appropriately named "don't") is the first bet that you can make in the game. You simply bet on whether the roll would produce a 7 or an 11 (the don't pass line is the reverse of this). You automatically win if the the result is indeed either a 7 or an 11, you loose if either a 2, 3 or 12 shows up. If numbers from 4-10 appear, you still have the chance to win as long as the number appears again before a seven is rolled out.

If rolling with 4 to ten, you can also add to your possible wins by placing a pass odd bet. The bet allows you to place up to five times your initial lay down as a side bet. You win the bet if you manage to get the number you bet on for the second time before a seven is rolled. Be warned though that losing means that you lose a considerably large amount. The pass odds bet is paid in true odds.

Another interesting bet that you can place is the come bet. The come bet plays out similar to the pass odds bet and you still have to get the point the second time around before a seven is played. What makes the bet interesting is that you can add more odds on your bet along the way. The bet is made when the first point is rolled out.

It is actually easy to determine your chances for the different bets. All you have to do is determine the odds of how likely a particular number would come out. To do this, you simply count the number of possible combination that a pair of dice can make for a particular number. Basically, the more combination there are available the more likely the number would appear. You then decide on what bet you are going to place based on the odds and the circumstances.

At the 42nd Annual Meeting of Stockholders of Volkswagen AG in Hamburg, the most economical car in the world is presented: the 1-litre car. The prototype, which until now has been kept closely under wraps, and which many people never believed could be built, was driven under its own power from Wolfs burg to the Annual Meeting in Hamburg.

Before the Annual Meeting, the current Chairman of the Board of Management, Dr. Ferdinand Piëch, drove this research vehicle to Hamburg from the company's headquarters at an average fuel consumption of 0.89 liters per 100 kilometers. This has once against impressively demonstrated Volkswagen's position at the cutting edge of modern technology.

The objective of developing a roadworthy vehicle that consumes just 1.0 liter of fuel per 100 kilometers could not be achieved through compromise. All existing technical solutions were examined, and in close cooperation with numerous suppliers, replaced by better, and principally lighter versions. The result is a vehicle that looks more like a sports car than a typical research vehicle.

The conceptual necessity for a small frontal area led to an unusually narrow and very flat body form being chosen. The body was developed in a wind tunnel, is 3.47 meters long, but just 1.25 meters wide and just over a meter in height, and is made completely of carbon fibre composites. To save weight, it is of course not painted.

The carbon-fiber-reinforced outer skin is tensioned over a space frame that is not made of aluminium, but rather of magnesium, which is even lighter. The 1-litre car is powered by a one-cylinder diesel engine, centrally positioned in front of the rear axle and combined

with an automated direct shift gearbox. The crankcase and cylinder head of the 0.3-litre engine are of an aluminium monobloc construction. The naturally aspirated, direct-injection diesel engine employs advanced high-pressure unit injection technology to generate 6.3 kW (8.5 bhp) at 4,000 rpm. This gives the vehicle, which weights just 290 kg, an astonishingly lively temperament.

Fuel consumption is a mere 0.99-liter per 100 kilometers. With a 6.5-litre tank, this gives a range of some 650 kilometers without refueling. Due to the restriction of space, it was not possible to adapt an existing gearbox. For this reason, a compact, automated 6-speed gearbox is employed, which is controlled from a turn switch in the cockpit.

Running gear made of lightweight alloy, tyres that offer optimized rolling resistance and 16-inch wheels made of extremely lightweight composite material perfectly complement the economical drive system. The interior is sportingly simple in design, yet offers enough space for two people, who can comfortably get in after folding back the turret-like gullwing door.

An extremely lightweight construction has also been employed for the seats. The seat frames are made of magnesium, and firm, yet comfortable fabric covers are used instead of classic upholstery. Despite the lightweight construction of all components, safety has been a major element in all phases of the development of the 1-litre car. For example, the concept vehicle's safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, ESP electronic stability program and a driver's airbag. Deformation elements at the front end and the space frame construction provide impact and rollover protection comparable to that of a GT racing car.

The sports-car-like design demonstrates that Volkswagen's 1-litre car is not a Spartan research vehicle, but a high-tech special vehicle. It starts with the special seating arrangement. The driver and passenger sit centrally as if in a monoposto, but in tandem. The mid-engine is installed transversely in front of the rear axle. With its complex design (double wishbones at front, DeDion suspension at rear) and combined with the low centre of gravity and low overall vehicle weight, the lightweight running gear results in very agile handling.

The project team has impressively succeeded in combining driving pleasure with a level of fuel consumption never seen before. The 1-litre car also incorporates numerous details of a practical and convenient nature. For example, there is an easily accessible stowage compartment with a capacity of 80 liters under a separate flap in the rear; a reversing camera that helps when maneuvering; automatic locking/unlocking of the gullwing door and a starter button in the cockpit that together allow keyless operation.

The concept of the 1-litre car - four wheels, low height, with two seats in tandem - gives an idea for a possible new family of vehicles, which could cover new requirements ranging from the ultra-economical vehicle, through the low-lost everyday touring vehicle for young people to the high-performance sports super car.

Origami

July has been a good month for biotech investors. Share prices in the biotech sector as measured by the NYSE Biotechnology Index are up 24% compared to the 6.6% gain for the S&P 500. Earlier in the month, Amgen (AMGN) reported better-than-expected results from a trial of its experimental bone-protecting drug denosumab in patients with advanced breast cancer. Amgen's shares vaulted 16% on the news.
In the week just ended, the momentum in biotech shares has continued further. While a host of favorable clinical trial results was the bigger driver, a large buyout announcement added the icing to the cake.

Clinical Trial Results

Bringing back memories of the dotcom era, shares of Human Genome Sciences (HGSI) rose nearly 300% to $12.50 a share after the company reported favorable results for its experimental lupus drug Benlysta. Targacept (TRGT) shares more than doubled to $7.25 a share after its depression drug candidate met its goals in a mid-stage trial. Onyx Pharmaceutical (ONXX) reported encouraging results for its breast cancer treatment Nexavar to push its shares higher by 21%. Shares of Celgene (CELG) jumped nearly 16% after the company announced significant improvement in progression-free survival of patients taking Revlimid as a first-line treatment for multiple myeloma.

Buyout

Continuing the trend of major pharma-biotech mergers, as in Roche (RHHBY.PK)-Genentech, and Eli Lilly (LLY)-ImClone, Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) announced it is buying Medarax (MEDX) for $16 a share. The Medarex takeover implies a net price tag of over $2 billion. Medarax shares jumped nearly 90% on the announcement.

Is it too Late to Board the Biotech Bandwagon?

Given strong gains in biotech shares in recent weeks, it is logical to ask if it is too late to get on the biotech bandwagon. I believe the answer, generally speaking, is no. Notwithstanding uncertainties surrounding health care reform, the fundamentals for biotech companies are reasonably favorable. Yet, one needs to take appropriate care in getting the timing right and in choosing proper investment vehicles.

Fundamentals

Several factors favor the long-term growth of biotech companies. These include an aging population, rising incidence of cancer and other degenerative diseases, and growing recognition that biotech products offer the best solutions for management of these diseases.

Several biotech drugs like Roche's Avastin and Amgen's Enbrel have the potential of becoming major blockbuster drugs by 2014. Biotech companies are seeking to expand uses of their approved drugs to treat more diseases. And, unlike drugs made by major pharmaceutical companies, biotech drugs are to a degree insulated from generic competition. Major pharmaceutical companies are also actively working to strengthen their biotech forte and increasingly acquiring biotech companies for their intellectual properties.

Timing

Equity prices have been strong across the board since the market bottomed on March 9 and the S&P 500 is up nearly 46%. Biotech shares are no exception. The market as well as biotech shares could be due for a pull-back. From a timing standpoint, it makes sense to put money to work in the biotech sector on a pullback.

Investment Vehicles

Stocks of established biotech companies like Amgen, Biogen Idec (BIIB), Genzyme (GENZ), and Gilead Sciences (GILD) typically move with little correlation to the broad market. That said, such shares carry some degree of event risk. Adverse results from key drug development efforts can cause such shares to swoon in a jiffy. As such, they may only be suitable for investors with well-diversified portfolios.
Smaller biotech companies often promise riches based on the success of one or two key drugs. They carry a high degree of event risk as failure in pivotal drug development activity can quickly break a company. Only the most risk-tolerant investors usually tend to court such shares.
Bundled products like biotech sector funds and ETFs are better suited for most investors since they reduce most of the event risk. And, there are plenty of biotech sector funds and ETFs to choose from. Investors looking for no load mutual funds can consider Fidelity Select Biotechnology (FBIOX) or Rydex Biotechnology (RYOIX).
In the ETF space, iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology (IBB) and SPDR S&P Biotech (XBI) are among the more popular ones. Investors looking for a global investment vehicle can look at PowerShares Global Biotech (PBTQ).
Aggressive traders looking for explosive short-term returns can turn to Biotechnology UltraSector ProFund (BIPIX). This mutual fund uses leverage to boost returns.

Parents usually invest time and effort in finding the perfect name for their babies. It is common that once a name is given to a baby, an appropriate nickname also follows. Space pirate ftw!

Maybe you have grown tired of the same old kid party themes and want to liven things up just a bit. You can do this by using your imagination to create a fun theme that will have all of the children dancing with delight. Don't be afraid to be a little different, kids really appreciate a party that is totally unique. You will find that these little ones are your biggest fans.

You first have to decide on a theme, but do not worry, this is really easy. Perhaps your kid loves pirates. If that is the case then Pirates will be your theme. Now you have to get down to particulars. Do you want to let everyone dress alike and have a contest for the best Captain Jack Sparrow? If not you can ask each guest to come as their favourite pirate and present a gift for the most original costume.

Create your invitations from parchment paper and purchase some little boxes that look like miniature treasure chests to hold them. Then hand-deliver them to all of the guests. Draw the directions to your home so that it looks like a treasure map for an extra added touch.

Find some music with pirate songs and play them in the background while everyone is arriving. Decorate your home with red, black and gold balloons and streamers. Create names for all of the food that you are serving such as Shipwreck Sandwiches, Hidden Treasure Cookies, I Spy Chips.

A fun theme for pirates is to have a dress up party at your home. Ask the children to wear their favourite pirate shirt and pants to the festivities. Then you can set up a box with all types fun accessories like bandanas, neck chains, plastic (or foam) cutlasses, hats and eye-patches. Let the guests choose the accessories that they want to wear.

Another idea is to have a Create a Pirate theme. You can give each child a cut out of a pirate figure made from paper or cardboard. Then provide them with glue, feathers, bits of cloth, buttons and other interesting decorations. Each kid creates their ideal pirate and you can award prizes for their efforts.

Have a treasure hunt inside the home or out in the yard. You can use small gold wrapped candies for the treasure. Pass out clues and have some additional clues hidden about that must be found before they can locate the treasure.

Arrange a pirate scavenger hunt and hide small plastic parrots, play jewellery, imitation gold doubloons and tiny pirate ships. You can keep your pirate loving guests occupied for an hour or more with these pirate themed expeditions.

A little imagination will go a long way and you can create a fun theme for any occasion or fancy dress idea. Remember that you need to keep your sense of humour, relax and have fun with the guests. If you do this your party will be the hit of the season.
